We are delighted to welcome you to the second Byres Road Book Festival, after a great inaugural year in 2016. We have a broad range of events and activities that we hope will engage all ages and many interests.
Amongst more than twenty events in this programme you’ll find witty Gaelic women, four crime writers in search of a plot, a poet working with a cartoonist, one of Scotland’s finest literary Irish imports, superheroes and an innovative project by Scottish PEN.
So join us in the West End for a September Weekend filled with books, conversations and laughter, and spend some time exploring all that Byres Road and the lanes have to offer.
The festival is the result of an initiative by Byres Road & Lanes Business Improvement
District (Visit West End) and our partners Glasgow Life,Waterstones, and Oxfam. Glasgow Life runs Hillhead library, a key destination in Byres Road and, with over
390,000 visitors a year, a vital cog in the West End community. The Oxfam bookshop is known within and beyond the city for the quality of its stock. Waterstone’s
has quickly established itself in the life of Byres Road, with a strong programme of events both within the store and in iconic locations such as the Kibble Place in the Botanic Gardens at the top of Byres Road. We are pleased that the Hilton Grosvenor Glasgow continues to be our accommodation partner. The Byres Road & Lanes Business
Improvement District (BID) is an initiative that aims to improve the economic vitality of Byres Road, promoting the area within and beyond the city, and improving the quality
of the visitor experience

Who are we?
The top of Byres Road is blessed with a trio of book – based assets that will make it the hub of activity during the festival. Last year we welcomed Waterstones to the West End, just across the road from Hillhead library and the Oxfam bookshop. These three locations will host a variety of presentations, conversations and discussions, united by a love of books.
Byres Road is the heart of the West End, and is a well-known destination for locals and visitors to the city. Known for its quirky shops, superb dining and vibrant nightlife, the area attracts visitors of all ages. Visit West End, who initiated the Byres Road Book Festival, is working with the businesses in Byres Road to improve the area for traders, residents and visitors. In our opinion, Byres Road is the hub of the West End and the ideal location for this festival.
